WHAT IS THE TRINITY?
whats the deal with the trinity? why three and not one? whats its speaciality?
What makes the trinity special and connected to themselves lies in their definitions as given in the bible. These definitions define their relationship to the salvation of man.The biblical definitions of the persons ,independently, does not give all information on how the full nature of God is but it gives us the information we need, that is, the nature of God as related to man and his salvation from sin or chaos. These definitions are usually overlooked by most Christians but play a very important role. In Fact the definition of anything helps identify what the thing is and also its role in the universe. Therefore because men have found difficulty in defining the Godhead they have in turn been unable to connect to its purpose in the universe and even in their lives as individuals.
Yet because God cannot be defined by the finite human mind being himself infinite it would require that we experience infiniteness to understand what God is. Despite this difficult the Godhead has in fact defined itself and shown as how it is connect to the universe or the individual. It only takes a keen researchful mind and asking the right questions to find this out. We will therefore attempt to define God and find his relationship to us. In Fact he has already defined himself in relation to us in the bible, we will just need to read carefully and connect the dots together to see the full plot. Grab your bibles and let's find out who the Godhead is.
THE FATHER
Many descriptions or definitions run in the bible that define the father. But here we are looking at a definition not of his ultimate being but rather one that we strongly relate to and relates to us. A definition that is rather more human that Godly. Others have by now figured it out. It's found in 1 john 4: 8.
He that loves not knows not God; for God is love.
Here is the definition we were looking for. God is love. The verse in the greek does not say that God is loving but rather love itself. The word love in the verse is used as a nominative noun singular feminine which is the lexicon definition word for love. The word used is αγαπη (agape) meaning love used as a perfect definitive noun here makes us conclude that the meaning is infact defining the nature of God. the noun is not used for man in the verse rather αγαπων (agapon) is used in the term “he that loves not” the word αγαπων (agapon) is a verb. To be precise is a verb - present active participle - nominative singular masculine which means: to love (in a social or moral sense). Because it is a verb it only describes an action. To defines the action that the subject of the statement must do the subject being man. But on the case of God the greek term being θεος noun - nominative singular masculine theos theh'-os: which also is a noun and the verb being εστιν verb - present indicative - third person singular esti es-tee': which means is, a state of being, therefore the noun + is + noun structures mathematically forms an “equal to” equations that is to say that God = love and vice versa as is 2+3= 1+4 . both are equal and the same thing. Therefore God is love. I took this definition because love is an emotional related to human beings.
THE SON
Another verse brings out another definition of God with an earthly attributed man related word. John 1:1.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The verse describes God's word was God. another noun + is (past tensed) + noun sentence structure. The greek word for word used here being λογος noun - nominative singular masculine logos log'-os: and the word for God being θεος noun - nominative singular masculine theos theh'-os: and the verb in the sentence being ην verb - imperfect indicative - third person singular en ane: was being the past tense of is. Since “was” is a past tense does it imply that God stopped being the word. Nay it does not. This is because the verse describes a past action that happened and it would be incorrect to use the present tense to describe the past events. It wouldn't make sense. We also see in verse 14 of john that the “word became flesh”
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
This verse brings up two more findings. The first one being equated as follows: if God=word and word/∆=flesh and flesh=the begotten of the father and the begotten of the father=jesus christ ∴jesus christ=the word=God. The second being that if jesus christ=word and word=to God ∴jesus christ=God. This is why john says that “the word was with God” implying that even though the word is God, the word is rather separate from God.and later this conclusion is seen as the word becomes flesh which is jesus christ who later claims to be the son of God and equal to God, john 10:30 “I and my Father are one.”
the conclusion of the matter being that THE SON is defined as The word. A rather earthly word used to describe a rather Godly being. Just the type of definition we was looking for.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE WORD
The bible features the word in four major types i.e the creative word, the prophetic word, the written word and the living word. An example of the creative word is given in genesis chapter one where God says things into being.the prophetic word can be see in books like daniel and revelations where God speaks of coming future events. The written word is no other than the bible in itself and other written works by many inspired christian authors. The living word is as john said christ himself. It is the word become flesh.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
Unlike the persons we have discussed already, the holy spirit has many descriptive associations. There is no noun + is + noun sequence. Instead will look at what the holy spirit does throughout the bible, its defining factors find the common denominator and then by it define. We will not ask any questions on the personality being of the holy spirit. We will merely accept that he is in the bible and part of the Godhead.
The hebrew word ר֫וּחַ (ruach) and the greek word πνεῦμα (pneuma) are words used in the bible for spirit. They both mean the same thing, that is, wind, breath, or spirit. Other words associated with the spirit are : fire;
Acts 2King James Version (KJV)
2 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
On the famous day of pentecost , the spirit comes rushing as a wind and in a form of tongues of fire sat on the disciples. We see here the holy spirit being associated with fire. Another important association of the spirit is the word move.
2 Peter 1King James Version (KJV)
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
We see here that men who wrote scriptures and also its prophecies were moved by the spirit and did not otherwise do it by their own power. In genesis we see a similar thing happening during creation were the spirit “moved upon the face of the deep.” Another word is the word inspiration.
2 Timothy 3 King James Version (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Second peter 1: 20-21 shows that the scriptures prophecies and in fact the scripture itself was not a mere writing but all was a moving of the holy spirit and timothy shows us the scripture is inspired of God. we know already that the mover is the spirit therefore we can conclude that he who is the mover is also the inspirer.
The words spirit, move, breath, wind, breath, inspiration and fire all have one common denominator, energy. A spirit possessed person or a spirited horse are both known for their energetic behaviours, movement requires energy. Wind is active air, constantly moving, constantly energetic. breath is associated with respiration which is a way of sending energy to the body: genesis also associates breath to life, he makes a still figure and breaths upon it and its active or energetic. Fire is itself a ball of energy and has been used as an energy source for so long in history. An inspired person is known for his active energetic behaviour to do that he is inspired to do. See the following in a set equation.
if set A = set B & set A = the spirit ∴ set B = the spirit.
In english; if set A is equal to set B AND set B is equal to the spirit therefore set B is also equal to the spirit. Therefore we can safely conclude that the spirit is defined by the word energy. He is a constant active energy. I will rather use the word inspiration to describe the spirit in the further parts because it's the only definition that perfectly ties all the definitions together and is less weird that the word energy.
To conclude the defining part of this chapter we have discovered the personal related definitions of the persons of the Godhead. With careful didaction and spy work we have concluded that: The father is love, The son is the word and the spirit is energy. And on the part of the spirit we have agreed to use a rather bible related convenient word i.e inspiration. Therefore the spirit is inspiration.
